An oval, smooth, pale orange-yellow fruit with a groove running down one side. When the fruit ripens, the fruit splits at the groove. Within the parted husk is the seed which is the nutmeg. In Hindi it is known as Jaiphul. It has a sweet flavor, and is used grated freshly in rice, vegetables and puddings.
