Spicy Chickpeas
This dish uses garam masala, a spice blend often used in northern Indian cooking. Garam masala contains some of the so-called "warming spices" such as cinnamon, black pepper, and clove. Using canned chickpeas (well rinsed and drained) dramatically cuts the preparation time. Serve with Indian breads such as naan.

1 Onion, diced
4 Cloves, whole
2 Teaspoon(s) Garlic, minced
1 Tablespoon(s) Ginger, minced
1 Green chile, minced
2 Teaspoon(s) Coriander, ground
3/4 cup(s) Tomatoes, canned, chopped, juice reserved
1 can(s) Chickpeas, rinsed and drained
1/4 Teaspoon(s) Garam masala
1 Tablespoon(s) Cilantro, fresh, chopped


Instructions:
1. Heat oil in a skillet. Saut; onion until golden. Add cinnamon and cloves; cook a few seconds.
2. Add garlic, ginger, chile, and coriander, and cook 5 minutes, stirring.
3. Add tomatoes with their juice. Cook until all liquid is evaporated.
4. Add chickpeas, mix well, and cook 5 minutes, or until all liquid is gone.
5. Sprinkle with garam masala and cilantro.
